United Nigeria AAirlines (UNA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) to train students in aeronautical and aerospace engineering.
The signing of the MoU was made known in a statement issued by United Nigeria Airlines Public Relations Office
The airline described the partnership as part of its continued commitment to advancing education and supporting human capital development in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
It allso added, :this milestone partnership reflects our belief that corporate success must be matched with social responsibility and sustained investment in people.”
The MoU, according to the airline, establishes a structured pathway for students of ABUAD’s College of Engineering to enrol in our Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). Through this collaboration, eligible students will gain practical, hands-on training and real-world exposure in aeronautical and aerospace engineering, aviation maintenance, and airline operations.”
“The programme is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice, equipping students with relevant technical skills and professional experience required in today’s aviation sector.
Chairman and Founder, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, OFR,described the partnership as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s aviation future and human capital development. He emphasises that the sustainability and growth of the aviation industry depend on deliberate efforts to train and mentor young professionals who will drive the sector forward.
He further commended the Founder and Chancellor of ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, for his longstanding contributions to education, nation-building, and institutional excellence, saying, “ABUAD’s reputation for academic quality, discipline, and strong values makes the university a natural partner for us.”
He who expressed confidence that the collaboration will help nurture a new generation of highly skilled aviation professionals in Nigeria and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the industry globally., noted, “As we approach five (5) years of commercial flight operations, we remain committed to initiatives that promote education, youth empowerment, and professional development, in alignment with our long-term vision of responsible growth and national contributions.”
