The latest entrant into the scheduled domestic flight operations in Nigeria, XEJet operated its inaugural flights between Abuja and Lagos on Saturday.
The business class flight, 4U2202, operated with a CRJ- 200 had its 24 seats fully occupied.
The flight operated with a CRJ 200 marked 5N XEJ touched down at the domestic Wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos at about 1:50 pm and taxied to Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) where the passengers were welcomed to a grand reception.
The flight had on board, among other passengers, Director of Air Worthiness, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development Mr. Hassan Ejibulu who represented the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN) and the Managing Director of the Airline, Mr Emmanuel Isa.
In his opening remarks at the pre-departure ceremony of the maiden flight at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja, Keyamo expressed his pleasure with the arrival of the XEJet into scheduled operations in Nigeria, saying it’s a reflection of the spirit of innovation and progress his leadership is committed to foster in the aviation industry.
“it is indeed a pleasure to be here today to witness and take part in the maiden flight of EXjet, which marks a significant milestone in our aviation sector. This occasion reflects the spirit of innovation and progress that we are committed to fostering within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
He continued, “As we embark on this journey from Abuja to Lagos, we are reminded of the essential role aviation plays in connecting our cities, enhancing economic growth, and promoting national unity.”
He added that EX-Jet’s entry into our airspace brings a new level of service, comfort, and safety for Nigerians. It also underscores the remarkable resilience of our local airline industry and the dedication to meeting the needs of passengers across the nation. Today’s flight demonstrates our continued commitment to supporting new investments and partnerships that drive the growth and sustainability of civil aviation in Nigeria.”
The Minister also commended the management of the new airline for its dedication to provide quality service and its trust in the aviation industry in Nigeria.
“I would like to commend X-Jet for their dedication to providing quality service and for the trust they have placed in the Nigerian aviation market. This is indeed a vote of confidence in our economy and in the vision we share to establish Nigeria as a regional aviation hub.
“As we prepare to board, I am optimistic about the future of our aviation industry and the new heights we will reach together.”
The flight which arrived at Lagos Airport at about 13:50hrs with full load was welcome by the airlines ‘ Chief Operating Officer Officer, Sukh Mann and other top management staff in Lagos.
In his speech at MMA2 during a very warn arrival ceremony for the inaugural flight, Keyamo added that the success of the maiden flight was not only for ExJet but for the aviation industry in general.
“I am delighted to arrive here in Lagos on XEJet’s maiden flight, an important moment not only for X-Jet but also for the Nigerian aviation industry. He, therefore, affirmed the commitments of the ministry to create an enabling environment that will support innovative and reliable airlines like ExJet that are ready to bolster safety and efficient operations.
