Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported that it generated a revenue figure of Sixty Nine Billion Seven Hundred and Sixty Eight million, Five Hundred and Five thousand Five Hundred and Ninety Seven Naira and Seventy Nine kobo only (N69, 768,509, 597:79) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Cargo Area Command (MMAC) Lagos in the year 2022.
This was made known by the Area Customs Controller (CAC), Murtala Muhammed International Cargo Terminal Area Command of the Service, Comptroller Sambo Dangaladima during a press conference held at the command’s headquarters office on Tuesday.
Dangaladima who said the Area Command recorded a revenue of Sixty Nine Billion Seven Hundred and Sixty Eight Million, Five Hundred and Five thousand Five Hundred and Ninety Seven Naira and Seventy Nine kobo only (N69, 768,509, 597:79) as its best performance so far, affirmed that the Command surpassed its 2022 target of Sixty six billion, Nine hundred and Thirty Two million, Eight Hundred and Forty five Thousand One Hundred and Twenty Six Naira and two kobo only (N66, 932, 845,126:02) by Two Billion, Eight Hundred and Thirty Five million, six hundred and sixty four thousand, four hundred and seventy one Naira and Seventy Seven kobo only (N2,835,664,471:77) this he said was an increase of 4.24 percent as against Fifty Five Billion Six hundred and sixty Four Million, Four Hundred and Eighty Nine Thousand, Six Hundred and forty One hundred Naira and Forty Four kobo only (N55, 664,489,641:35) generated in 2021.
Similar the Area Controller said the Command intercepted and seized tramadol Hydrochloride 225 and 250 mg with the Duty Pay Value (DPV) of N13,827,775,560:04 which originated from India and Pakistan. He said a 34 year man, Samson Olayiwan Tantolorun was arrested in connection with the consignment.
These drugs have a duty paid Value of N13,827,775,560:04 and the seizures were made possible through credible intelligence from Customs Headquarters combined with the dutiful efforts of officers of MMAC and of course the collaborative efforts of sister agencies like National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
Dangaladima who warned traffickers of hard drugs and importers of prohibited goods not to come near the MMAC, said, ” we are very much mindful of the fact that this year is an election year in Nigeria the inflow traffic of this hard drugs that induce our youths to do extraordinary things (when taken) are bound to increase. But I can assure you the unscrupulous importers that MMAC is the most dangerous route for their illicit trade because we are always here to catch them and ensure that they face the wrath of the law.”
The CAC also disclosed that NCS operatives in the Command intercepted and seized some military hardware and uniforms.
He explained that the goods were seized because the importer could not produce End Users Certificate (EUC) as required by the law. He said he suspect has been detained while investigation continues on the issue.
The suspect connected with this importation could not provide the End User Certificate which is the lawful prerequisite for such importation we have detained the suspect and the military wares while the investigation is ongoing. Empowered by Section 46 of CEMA Cap C45 LFN 2004 to detain or seize all importation contravening the extant laws,” he explained.
