Fire outbreak at NACHO/ Hajj Camp motorpark at Lagos Airport

A fire outbreak occirred yesterday at the NAHCO/ Hajj Camp Motor park  of Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos.

The  inferno which occurred at about 18:30hours GMT ( 7:30 pm local time), was however quickly put under control by the personnel of Aerodrome Rescue and  Fire Sighting Service (ARFFS) at the Lagos Airport with the assistance of drivers at the motor park.

When African Business Travel News (ABTN) visited the scene of the fire outbreak a small makeshift shop near the spot of the incident was seen to have been completely razed down damaged by the inferno.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the inferno happened when a driver who had bought fuel in a plastic keg, because  of persisting fuel scarcity in Lagos State, was attempting to pour the highly inflammable material into another keg after discovering that the former keg was leaking.

The source who spoke to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity said on discovering  that there was fire outbreak, the driver immediately raised an alarm which attracted other drivers to scene to  rescue sitiation and began to battle the fire with water mixed with detergents and sands while calls were made to the Airport fire Service department who responded appropriately.

The source also added that the timely intervention of the personnel of the Nigerian Airforce who cordoned off the entire motorpark area while  the men of ARFFRS battled the fire prevented looting of offices and shops around the park by hoodlums who invaded the Airport from neighbouring Ajibulu community.

However, attempts by our correspondent to get the two Chairmen of the Airport Limousine Bus and Car  Services to speak  on the incident proved abortive. They were said to have gone for  meetings with officials of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in relation to the fire outbreak.
