…Seeks support of Kano State government on electricity supply to MAKIA
In his efforts towards ensuring successful Hajj operations in 2024, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, was in Kano State to see the level of preparedness of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on the seamless facilitation of intending pilgrims for year 2024 pilgrimage to the holy land in Saudi Arabia.
The Minister also seized the opportunity to seek the support of the state government on the provision of improved electricity supply to Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) where many pilgrims will be airlifted for the religious exercise.
Keyamo who wa acompanied on the trip by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, and directors from both the Ministry and FAAN, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The Governor who was unavoidably absent and was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Aminu Abdulssalam Gwarzo who joined the aviation team to undertake a facility tour of the airport, including the Hajj and cargo terminals, outlined his plans to ensure all States are ready for the 2024 Hajj operations.
Yusuf also pledged his unwavering support to FAAN to ensure seamless operations, with plans to collaborate with the state governments to ensure a successful pilgrimage.
Keyamo however, solicited support from the Kano State Government for a dedicated power line to the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to enhance power supply and improve the cooling system—a pressing need which has been an issue of serious concerns recent time.
in his response, The Deputy Governor assured the Minister and his team that the State Government would work diligently to ensure that the request would be swiftly addressed.
In another noteworthy development, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN Mrs. Obiageli Orah in a statement confurmed that Runway 18L has been reopened after the runway excursion involving an XEjet aircraft.
Orah also used the medium to reiterate FAAN’s commitment to providing seamless service to the Nigerian public.
