The Murtala Muhammed Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) raked in a revenue of ₦45,773,368,690.00k) from customs duties and other levies in the first quarter of 2025.
This was made known by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe on Wednesday during a media briefing held at the command’s office, Hajj/ Cargo Terminal Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Speaking during the media briefing, Comptroller Awe said: “Within the period under review, January 1, 2025 to March 31, 2025, the Command collected a total revenue of Forty five Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy Three Million, Three Hundred and Sixty Eight Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety Naira only (₦45,773,368,690.00k) from customs duties and other levies against Forty Five Billion, Four Hundred and Ninety Six Million, Three Hundred and Eighty Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Sixty Six Naira only (₦45,496,389,766.00k) collected for the corresponding period in 2024. which shows a revenue increase to the tune of Two Hundred and Seventy Six Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twenty Four Naira (₦276,978,924.00k) representing 0.61 per cent increase.
He noted that the steadfastness of the command in executing its mandate of revenue collection, economic protection, and enforcement of all relevant laws and regulations within its Area of Responsibility helped in the achievements.
“In the past three months, the command has remained steadfast in executing its mandate of revenue collection, economic protection, and enforcement of all relevant laws and regulations within our Area of Responsibility. Through unwavering commitment, strategic alliance, and collaboration with sister agencies as well as stakeholders, we have recorded remarkable milestones, in the areas of Revenue Collection, Anti-Smuggling Activities as well as Stakeholder Engagements” he said.
He explained further that with the coming of the Odogwu system, the command looks forward to greater performances in its revenue collection.
On anti muggling activities, Awe said , the Command seized four packages of immigration camouflage uniform in rolls, nineteen packages of two-way Motorola walkie – Talkie and. three packages of Colorado CAT leaf at the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of that stood at One Hundred and Thirty Two Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty Five Naira, and Forty Nine Kobo only (₦132,460,135.49).
The CAC who explained that the seizures were made possible through intelligence sharing, continuous profiling and vigilance of our officers, therefore reiterated the unwavering commitment of the men and officers of the Command to frustrate all forms of illegitimate trade attempted through the Murtala Muhammed Area Command with the enforcement of all extant laws and regulations with utmost professionalism and integrity.
On stakeholders engagement, Awe said the sustained strong and collaborative relationship with stakeholders in its environment has contributed immensely to the successes recorded.
“The Command has sustained a strong and collaborative relationship with its stakeholders, sister agencies, and other strategic partners. This synergy has been pivotal to the successes we have recorded so far, enabling timely intelligence sharing, swift operational responses, and seamless coordination in the discharge of our duties.
“Stakeholders’ engagement remains a cornerstone of our operational strategy. Through regular consultations, regular meetings, sensitization efforts, and feedback mechanisms, we have created an environment of trust, transparency, and mutual respect. These engagements have not only improved compliance levels but have also enhanced our capacity to anticipate and respond effectively to emerging challenges,” he said.
He therefore gave the assurance of the commitment of the command to maintain open-door policy with stakeholders at all time.
