Less than two weeks after a batch of Nigerians residing illegally in Libya another batch of 171 Nigerians of similar status returned from the North African country today with tales of woes to tell.
The Nigerians who arrived the country via Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos were received by officials of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Person(NAPTIP) Nigeria Immigration Services, Nigeria Customs Services, Nigeria Police Force among others were later taken to Synagouge Church of All Nations (SCOAN) where African Business Travel News (ABTN) learn a adequate preparations have been made for their rehabilitation by the church.
Speaking on their return
and experiences in Libya, Gift A. Petereter, a 27 year old lady from Delta tearful narrated her odeal in the hands of the traffickers.
Peter claimed she was taken without the knowledge of her parents with the promise that she will be taken to Germany, but she ended up in Libya.
In her words, “I travelled to Libya 11 but it was not months ago and I was deceived that I was going to Germany, but when it was not in my mind to continue the journey, I asked him to take me back and he started maltreating me, they will do things that make you to want to die, they will use hot electric iron to burn that person, that even ask other girls to urinate for you to drink”
“My family was not aware of my situation in Libyan so I called my friend and told him the situation am going through in Libya,”
She also added that some innocent Nigerian ladies are in Libya servicing different terms of imprisonment, while the culprits are out there walking free, why many have died, many did not survive the gun shot when they were catching ever
Speaking on the status of the returnees, Senior Special Assistance to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora,Hon, Abike Dabiri said the returnees are not criminals but men and women that have gone abroad in search of greener pastures but unfortunately, it turned out to be a terrible experience for them. They are not criminals,so they don’t need to be ashamed of themselves. But Mr. president has write to let us personally convey his greetings to them and to let them know that they are back in Nigeria and there is no better time than now, though times are tough, things are difficult, but there is no better time and you country is the best place to live.
