The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barrister Festus Keyamo SAN will be on ground at the 14th NIGAV Awards to present awards to 40 individuals and organisations who have distinguished themselves in different areas of the industry.
The NIGAV 2024 Awaards and Ministerial Dinner will hold on April 11,2025 at the NIGAV Expo Event Centre, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos from 2pm.
Theme of this years NIGAV awards is ‘Foundation for Accelerated Aviation Growth’ (FAAG) focuses on highlighting outstanding achievements of the present administration over the past year in establishing the groundwork necessary for positive and sustainable growth in the aviation business.
A media statement by the Chairman, NIGAV Event Committee,Mr Fortune Idu said the Minister of Aviation, Barrister Festus Keyamo, applying his legal expertise, has methodically analyzed the challenges facing the complex aviation sector which he said includes examining its critical development components to identify the obstacles that have hindered the growth of what is expected to be a vibrant industry.
Idu noted that the past one year has been significant for reviewing projects, programmes, and processes aimed at driving aviation growth adding that the review encompasses previous contracts, unbalanced bilateral service agreements, unplanned airport development initiatives, unstructured maintenance and infrastructure development processes, frustrations related to business and investment, and inadequate local content inclusion.
“This administration has aimed to identify the reasons behind the failure of the notable aviation roadmap to establish Nigeria as a competitive aviation investment destination and a strong player in regional air transportation economies.”
“These findings have resulted in the cancellation of some national projects and the revocation of previous airport concessions, along with a comprehensive review of other programs and projects that may have shown serious distortions, unrealistic ambitions, and unfavorable negotiations terms that could be detrimental to Nigeria as a nation”
According to the NIGAV Committee event Chairman, this year’s theme is an acknowledgement that substantial efforts have been made to address the issues that have seemingly hindered the industry’s potential, stressing, that it also serves as an announcement to stakeholders and investors that a path to prosperity has been created to promote growth in a level playing field that allows for healthy competition.
He revealed that Richard Aisuebeogun, IAP, Ph.D., Vice Chairman of the NIGAV Award, will analyze the performance of the aviation industry in 2025 with anticipation that 2025 will present a positive outlook for the future of aviation, integrating both local and international interests into Nigeria’s vast and untapped aviation landscape.
“Nigeria’s aviation sector is regarded as Africa’s most attractive air transport market and investment corridor; it simply needs the right foundations to be established,” he boasted.
