A 72 year old passenger, name withheld, today died on board an Air Peace flight on Calabar-Abuja route.
africanbusinesstravel.com.ng gathered that the passenger had been on medication and was travelling to Abuja for further medical treatment when the incident happened.
The passenger was confirmed dead after he was examined by an official of Port Health Service who was called in when the crew noted that the passenger had zero purse when the airplane arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The deceased was reportedly accompanied on the flight by his daughter, and was cleared by Port Health Officials at the Calabar airport as “fit to fly” before boarding.
A top official at the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) who confirmed the incident to our Correspondent said, “You have to get the details from the airline. He did not die in the terminal, he died on the aircraft” the official however refused to give more details.
Confirming the incident, Air Peace’s spokesman, Stanley Olisa, said, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. He was a 72-year-old man. He was certified fit to fly by Port Health Services at Calabar Airport. He was accompanied by his daughter. He was given medical clearance. He was going to Abuja for a check-up. He was on medication. Our crew notified Port Health officials at Abuja Airport when it was discovered that the man had zero purse on arrival. The Port Health personnel came in and took the vital signs and confirmed the passenger dead and his remains has been taken to an hospital in Abuja.”
